Aqua Security, the pure-play cloud native security leader, today appointed Christopher Smith as Chief Revenue Officer. With nearly 30 years of enterprise IT experience and 19 in cybersecurity, Smith will join the executive team to help scale Aqua’s global go-to-market team and accelerate growth.
Most recently Smith was Chief Revenue Officer at Onapsis where he led go-to-market strategies for sales, marketing, channels and field engineering. He has deep roots in building high-velocity, enterprise sales organizations at scale. He played a critical role in two initial public offerings and five merger and acquisition events, including Invincea (acquired by Sophos), ArcSight (acquired by Hewlett Packard) and Mercury Interactive (acquired by Hewlett Packard).
“Chris joins Aqua Security at a critical point of inflection,” said Dror Davidoff, Aqua cofounder and CEO. “The world is moving toward widespread modernization and cloud adoption, and as the cloud native security market leader, the company is poised for massive growth. With a track record of success at scale-up companies, Chris’ leadership will be instrumental in helping us achieve continued success on our mission to make the cloud a safer place.”

“The cloud native space is growing rapidly as enterprises accelerate their digital transformation initiatives,” said Smith. “The market needs a security vendor to keep pace, and Aqua is the only player in the industry that can offer the full lifecycle of cloud native tools. I am thrilled to join a company that brings cutting-edge industry research, open source leadership and innovative technology to tackle the biggest security challenges facing today’s cloud transformation.”
Before Onapsis, Smith was the CRO for Anomali where he accelerated revenue growth and led Global Sales and Field Operations. He was the driving force behind Instart Logic’s global growth and entry into a new key vertical.
This news comes on the heels of Aqua Security’s $135M Series E funding in March 2021, and is part of the company’s investment in expanding the leadership team to support the company’s explosive growth. In May 2021, Aqua appointed its first-ever Customer Success Officer, Sharon Eilon and in July its first-ever Chief Marketing Officer, Matt Richards. The company recently doubled its number of customers with notable new customers in the federal, financial, energy, telecom, and automotive sectors.
