Leading security experts will host a live Active Directory disaster recovery workshop at the event in London on Thursday, 9 June 2022
Semperis, the pioneer in identity-driven cyber resilience for enterprises, today announced that it will host a special edition of its Hybrid Identity Protection (HIP) Conference – HIP London – a live one-day disaster recovery workshop in London on Thursday, 9 June 2022. Bringing together leading identity security experts from Europe and the US, the event will focus on crucial strategies for protecting and recovering Active Directory (AD), the Microsoft directory service that is included in most Windows operating systems and that has become a primary target of cyberattacks.
Threat actors increasingly attack AD to scout company networks, steal credentials and move laterally to encrypt and ransom critical resources. High-profile incidents involving AD include the Colonial Pipeline hack and the SolarWinds attack. Both demonstrate the potential scale of damage when AD is compromised.
To successfully recover from a cyberattack, organisations face the complex technical challenge of rebuilding their entire AD environment from backups. This process requires careful analysis, planning and coordination between different groups within the organisation.
During the live event in London, security practitioners can now learn first-hand from the industry’s leading experts how to navigate AD recovery. The free workshop will be presented by Semperis’ Masters of Disaster:
- Guido Grillenmeier, Chief Technologist, Semperis, Microsoft MVP alumnus for Directory Services and co-author of Microsoft Windows Security Fundamentals
- Jorge de Almeida Pinto, Lead Identity/Security Consultant, Semperis and Microsoft MVP since 2006
- Gil Kirkpatrick, Chief Architect, Semperis, Microsoft MVP for Active Directory and Enterprise Mobility, founder of the Directory Experts Conference and author of Active Directory Programming

Attendees will learn why AD is a target for threat actors and how they attack to destroy networks; the various disaster scenarios practitioners need to consider; backup and restore technologies; how to organise and implement disaster recovery drills and more. At the end of the workshop, the presenters will walk the audience through a simulated AD attack and recovery.
In addition to the workshop, HIP London will include keynotes, networking opportunities and a panel session led by Sean Deuby, Director of Services, Semperis, who has been involved with Microsoft identity technology since its inception.
Originally established in the US, HIP was designed to advance the skills of IT and cybersecurity professionals through highly technical demonstrations and collaborative workshops. It is now the premier educational forum for identity-centric practitioners.
