Google has increased the information requirements for Play Store developer accounts in an effort to verify whether or not they are legitimate.
While Google presently only asks for an email address and phone number, it will now also ask whether the account is for personal or business use, contact name, physical address, and email and phone verification.
They can use the contact information to send out essential app updates and information. It also aids them in ensuring that each account is created by a real person with legitimate contact information, ensuring that the Play Store remains safe for all users, Google stated in a blog post.
