Pen Test Partners, a security consulting and testing firm, reports that hacking an Airbus suite of applications for pilot electronic flight bags (EFB) could have put aircraft safety at risk.
The Flysmart+ suite of applications, created by Airbus-owned IT services company Navblue, enables pilots to perform performance calculations and access flight operations manuals directly on a tablet, like an iPad. The app assists in “delivering efficient and safe departure and arrival of flights,” according to Pen Test Partners.
Pen Test Partners found that the iOS app Flysmart+ Manager, which lets users update the EFB application suite of data from a central solution, had App Transport Security (ATS) turned off.
