DDoS extortion attacks are getting stronger and in a recent development, Akamai has reported three large-scale DDoS extortion attacks. These attacks are amongst the six biggest volumetric DDoS attacks the cybersecurity company has ever recorded. Two out of the six attacks were the biggest ransom DDoS attacks and the most recent one reached its highest point at 800Gbps. The target was a gambling firm in Europe and was said to be one of the most complex attacks ever seen.
As per Akamai, in 2021 the DDoS campaigns have become more targeted and persistent in nature. In recent attacks on two organizations, multiple campaigns targeted a range of IP addresses and lasted for several days.
