AT&T has stated that the dark web exposed data on approximately 73 million current and
former customers, including social security numbers and other personal information.
According to the telecommunications company, the data set appears to be from 2019 or earlier, affecting approximately 7.6 million current AT&T account holders and 65.4 million former account holders. AT&T, based in Dallas, Texas, used the Easter holiday weekend to quietly share an update on data that first surfaced on the dark web about two weeks ago.
The company stated that a “robust investigation” is underway, with support from internal and external cybersecurity teams.
