Wickr, an encrypted messaging service, is acquired by Amazon Web Services, the business revealed recently. Wickr’s end-to-end messaging service, launched in 2012, was one of the early pioneers of ephemeral communication, delivering encrypted and disappearing communications, years before Signal and WhatsApp did.
Wickr’s robust security features and zero-trust platform architecture have gained popularity among companies, the public sector, and government organizations, with the US Department of Defense among its customers.
Wickr is being used by public sector customers for a wide range of operations, from securely communicating with office-based employees to providing encrypted communications to service members at the tactical edge, according to AWS chief information security officer Stephen Schmidt, in a blog.
