Attackers are using a newly released Remote Access Trojan (RAT) to spread ransomware and distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. They are also using traditional RAT function of backdooring victims’ systems.
The RAT, dubbed Borat RAT by researchers at Cyble Research Labs, was discovered using a photograph of Sacha Baron Cohen, the comedian who created and portrayed the fictional character Borat in a popular series of mockumentary films.
This novel malware strain enhances the functionality of standard Trojans by including advanced functionality and a collection of modules for launching various types of threat activity. As Cyble Research Labs describes it, the RAT serves as a platform from which threat actors can launch their cybercriminal activities.
