A ransomware attack on CaptureRx, a San Antonio-based company that provides drug-related administrative services, has affected several healthcare providers across the United States.
Customers’ or patients’ health information was allegedly revealed and stolen at least three healthcare-related facilities, including UPMC Cole and UPMC Wellsboro in Pennsylvania, Gifford Health Care in Randolph, Lourdes Hospital and Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare in New York, Vermont, and a variety of Thrifty Drug Stores.
According to the HIPAA Journal, the cyber-attackers accessed the details of at least 17,655 patients at Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare, 6,777 patients at Gifford Health Care, and 7,400 patients at UPMC Cole and UPMC Wellsboro.
