According to Symantec, the Chinese cyberespionage group Witchetty has recently launched attacks against targets in the Middle East and Africa while also updating its toolkit. Witchetty, also known as LookingFrog, is thought to be a member of Cicada, the advanced persistent threat (APT) actor from China also known as APT10 and Stone Panda. Early this year, Cicada was observed expanding its target list to include entities in numerous nations around the world, including Europe, Asia, and North America. Cicada was initially focused on Japanese targets. The governments of two Middle Eastern nations as well as an African stock exchange were identified by Symatec as targets of the recent Witchetty activity.
