Chinese Hackers Escalate Cyberattacks on Taiwan Amid Deteriorating Bilateral Ties, Targeting Key Sectors

A suspected Chinese state-sponsored hacking group called RedJuliett has intensified its cyberattacks on Taiwanese firms, particularly focusing on government, education, technology, and diplomacy sectors. The attacks took place between November 2023 and April 2024, coinciding with Taiwan’s presidential elections and changes in administration.

This is the first time RedJuliett has observed such widespread activity. The group targeted 24 organizations, including government agencies in Laos, Kenya, Rwanda, and Taiwan, and websites of organizations in Hong Kong and South Korea, a U.S. university, and a Djiboutian university.
