Cisco has released an open-source proof-of-concept tool that improves visibility into backplane traffic in industrial enterprises.
A backplane is a piece of hardware that connects multiple modules and components together. Backplanes, for example, allow businesses to connect programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and other modules for high-speed communication.
The firm explained that issue is that in many circumstances, OT security teams are unable to effectively monitor all traffic transiting the backplane, preventing them from having complete insight into the network. The organization believes that security suppliers alone will be unable to fix this issue.
