Russian hackers identified as APT29 have targeted COVID-19 vaccine developers, healthcare, and pharma researchers to hack data related to the virus research. The hackers use custom malware known as the WellMail and WellMess to target healthcare organizations.
Throughout the pandemic, APT29 was identified to be conducting cyber-attacks on organizations in the UK, US, and Canada that were involved in vaccine development. Security officials said that the group has been using phishing attacks to gain credentials details to internet access login pages.
