Critical infrastructure organizations have been alerted to the emergence of a new ransomware threat called BianLian. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), FBI, and HHS issued the warning, describing BianLian as a sophisticated ransomware strain targeting sectors like healthcare and energy.
The malware is difficult to detect, using encryption and obfuscation techniques to compromise networks. The attacks, potentially nation-state sponsored, involve initial intrusion via phishing or software vulnerabilities, followed by file encryption and ransom demands.
The organizations are advised to implement robust cybersecurity measures, maintain offline backups, and establish incident response plans to counter such attacks.
