UMBC researchers are collaborating with the Chicago-based MxD to cultivate a curriculum and online platform for the manufacturing professionals to enhance their cybersecurity skills and to protect various manufacturing plants from cyber-attacks. This is funded by a $650,000 grant from the Office of Economic Adjustment, governed by the U.S. Department of Defense.
MxD tops the 14 federally-supported institutes referred collectively as Manufacturing USA. It has been awarded millions to research and development projects over 35 states to advance U.S. manufacturing practices and strengthen global competitiveness. This UMBC collaboration will be the first-ever initiative focused on enriching manufacturing workers’ knowledge of cybersecurity.
The content of this program is completely fresh, as there are no prior existing platforms that focus on the intersection of manufacturing and cybersecurity.
