The international wholesaler Metro has confirmed service interruptions following a cyberattack. With its headquarters in Düsseldorf, Germany, the business runs more than 680 Metro and Makro stores in 24 nations and employs over 95,000 people globally.
According to a notice on the company’s website, “Metro/Makro is currently experiencing a partial IT infrastructure outage of several technical services.” Metro says it has determined that a cyberattack is to blame for the outages, but it hasn’t offered any further information.
However, the infrastructure problems raise the possibility that ransomware was involved.
