Fortra has completed its investigation into the recent zero-day incident affecting its GoAnywhere managed file transfer (MFT) software and released a summary of its findings.
The investigation, carried out with the assistance of cybersecurity company Palo Alto Networks, showed that malicious activity began on January 18 when hackers attacked on-premises implementations running a particular configuration of GoAnywhere. Customers of MFTaaS were found to have been targeted with the zero-day vulnerability starting on January 28 according to the investigation.
The unauthorized activity carried out in MFTaaS environments was completely neutralized the following day after Fortra learned about the hack on January 30.
