According to a new report published by the cybersecurity firm Group-IB, a French-speaking cybercrime organization may have stolen more than USD 30 million from banks and other organizations over the past few years.
Group-IB has identified the threat actor as Opera1er. Others have previously looked into some of its operations and have given it names like Common Raven, Desktop-Group, and NXSMS. The cybersecurity firm is aware of 30 successful attacks that took place between 2019 and 2021; frequently, the same victim was targeted more than once.
The majority of the attacks targeted African banks, but there were also financial services, mobile banking services, and telecoms companies on the list of victims.
