Google LLC recently reported that its Cloud Spanner managed relational database now helps businesses to encrypt their data with their encryption keys.
Since organizations in controlled sectors like finance and healthcare are already legally mandated to handle encryption keys centrally, this is a minor but important update. By making the tool available, Google will now use Cloud Spanner to address a broader variety of domain use cases, potentially resulting in new revenue opportunities.
The commercial equivalent of Google’s internal relational database, Cloud Spanner, is used to power its customer services. The system’s queries are written in basic SQL syntax, and service level agreements guarantee an uptime of up to 99.999 percent.
