Inmate and Staff Data Stolen in Rhode Island Prison Data Breach

Data breach

The personal information of about 2,000 prisoners, employees, and vendors was compromised in a data breach that was revealed by the Rhode Island-based Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility.

The correctional facility claims that malware was installed on its computer systems and that data was stolen during the November incident. Upon conducting an investigation, it was discovered that the attackers had gained access to the personal data of over 1,450 detainees, over 430 staff members—both current and former—and about 90 outside vendors.

The facility also says that it is still looking into the incident and that it will notify any more people who may have been impacted.
