ESET, the cybersecurity firm, has recently published a report revealing what it described as an undocumented piece of malware earlier has been now aiming for high-performance computing (HPC) clusters.
ESET has termed this malware as Kobalos due to its small size (25 Kb) and its tricks. The analysis is focused on the Linux version; however, the researchers also noted that it works on FreeBSD and Solaris. This indicates the possible availability for Windows and AIX systems.
The security experts hope that the report could further help others analyze the new threat – which was first spotted in late 2019, targeting the supercomputers.
