The mortgage servicing company LoanCare has begun notifying over 1.3 million people about a breach involving their personal data. As a division of Fidelity National Financial (FNF), LoanCare offers mortgage loaners—banks, credit unions, and mortgage companies—loan subservicing.
According to a notification letter from LoanCare to the affected parties, the data breach was caused by a cyberattack on FNF’s internal systems. In a Form 8-K filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, FNF revealed the attack in late November.
The filing stated that the incident was discovered on November 19 and that it caused disruptions to business operations.
