A recent study from cybersecurity specialist Naval Dome says there has been a 400% increase in attempted cyber-attacks in the maritime industry since February 2020.
The industry has been affected by a significant rise in malware, ransomware, and phishing e-mails to the COVID-19 crisis. The pandemic has resulted in social restrictions and border
closures that have stopped several original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), technicians, and vendors to fly out to ships to upgrade or work on OT systems, leaving them at a high-risk for cyber-attacks. The rise in OEM personnel working remotely on home networks and personal devices has further made them more susceptible to threats.
