Hammersmith Medicines Research, a London-based lab reported an attack on its facilities researching vaccines for Coronavirus. The attack came from a familiar line of ransomware named Maze. Soon after, such attacks were reported from around the world.

The maze ransomware similar to other ransomware makes extortion attempts through Bitcoin. However, unlike other ransomware, it also threatens to publish sensitive patient data online. On a final note, Hammersmith refused to pay the ransom, while assuring public at large that the information was dated, and not traceable to individuals.
