After stalling for years with its underpowered Azure Data Catalog service, Microsoft has decided to enter the data governance prime time with its general availability (GA) of Azure Purview.
Consisting of an underlying data management/governance platform as well as a new data catalog application that works on it, Purview wants to serve the twin needs of enterprise organizations while keeping their data discoverable. Additionally, the firm desires to manage its use in compliance with data protection regulations in multiple jurisdictions throughout the world.
In the cloud as well as on-premises, Purview incorporates a host of Microsoft products and services.
