Microsoft has recently filed a lawsuit in an attempt to seize control of the domains that are
used in COVID-19-themed cyber-attacks. This initiation is against the company’s users across countries.
The tech giant was tracking the malicious activities in December 2019 – after finding that a
phishing scheme is trying to compromise the Microsoft customer accounts.
Microsoft also observed renewed attempts by the same criminals in many cases, who have
been using COVID-themed lures in phishing emails to target victims.
According to Tom Burt, Corporate VP, Customer Security and Trust, “This malicious activity is yet another form of business email compromise (BEC) attack, which has increased in complexity, sophistication, and frequency in recent years.”
