Prior to Tax Day, Microsoft has issued a warning about a new Remcos remote access trojan (RAT) campaign that targets accounting and tax return preparation firms in the US.
The US tax season has historically provided cybercriminals with a chance to target innocent victims in a variety of malicious attacks, including the distribution of malware, and the 2023 tax season will be no exception.
Microsoft claims that since February, threat actors have been seen breaking into networks to install Remcos, a malicious program that gives them remote access to Windows systems. Remcos is short for Remote Control and Surveillance.
