Eight security flaws have been discovered in Microsoft software for macOS. These vulnerabilities could be exploited by an attacker to obtain elevated privileges or access sensitive data. This could be achieved by bypassing the permissions-based model of the operating system, which is based on the Transparency, Consent, and Control (TCC) framework.
The weaknesses affect a range of applications including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. The cybersecurity company explained that malicious libraries could be inserted into these applications to gain their privileges and permissions granted by the user. Subsequently, these could be leveraged to extract sensitive information, depending on the level of access granted to each application.
