Palo Alto Networks’ threat research team, Unit 42, has found new malicious activity targeting IoT devices. A variant of Mirai, a malware, is behind the activities causing large-scale network attacks by controlling bots remotely. Dubbed IZ1H9 variant was first discovered in August 2018, and since then, it has become one of the most active Mirai variants.
Unit 42 researchers observed a wave of malicious campaigns IZ1H9 on April 10 deployed by the same threat actor. IZ1H9 is installed on an IoT device that infects the device’s IP address, similar to the original Mirai.
