A new analysis of tools put to use by the Black Basta ransomware operation has identified ties between the threat actor and the FIN7 (aka Carbanak) group.
According to a technical write-up provided to reporters by cybersecurity company SentinelOne, this link “could suggest that Black Basta and FIN7 maintain a special relationship or that one or more individuals belong to both groups.” Black Basta, which first surfaced this year, has been linked to a ransomware rampage that, as of September 2022, had destroyed over 90 organizations, indicating that the adversary is well-resourced and well-organized.
