The Robinhood Mobile Stock Exchange (NASDAQ: HOOD) violated a security law that disclosed the names and email addresses of millions of users and their “extensive account details”.
The Menlo Park., California based company, which claims about 22 million users are trading stocks, ETFs, and cryptocurrencies through its mobile system, said the violations occurred on November 3 when a cyber-hacker stole names, email addresses, birthdays, zip. codes and additional personal information from customer user data.
The company underestimated the level of impact, claiming that the “limited amount of personal information of a portion of our customers” had been stolen but confirmed that the hacker had obtained about 5 million words and nearly 2 million email addresses.
