A ransomware group has targeted at least one water company in the UK, however, it’s unclear whose systems were actually compromised.

On its Tor-based leak website, the Cl0p ransomware group claimed that it had infiltrated Thames Water’s systems. Thames Water bills itself as the largest water and Wastewater Company in the UK, providing services to 15 million people.

The files released as proof of the breach, however, appear to belong to a different water company named South Staffordshire, whose subsidiaries, South Staffs Water and Cambridge Water, serve 1.6 million people and tens of thousands of businesses in the UK, despite the fact that Cl0p names Thames Water on its website.
