Slack has been scraping customer data, including messages and files, to develop new AI and ML models without requiring users to opt-in. The company insists it has technical controls to block Slack from accessing the underlying content, but corporate Slack admins are scrambling to opt-out of the data scraping.
Customers can exclude their data from helping train non-generative ML models, but the process requires sending an email request. Slack claims that its AI models are hosted on its infrastructure, ensuring customer data remains controlled and not leaving Slack’s trust boundary.
