A new strain of malware discovered in a recent IT issue appears to have been impacted by existing strains notorious for reaping significant financial rewards for their operators, but it is most likely the product of amateurs.
The Windows-based ransomware dubbed BlackByte and found by Trustwave, is regarded “odd” due to several of its designers’ design and function decisions.
The cybersecurity firm claims in a collection of technical advisories published last week that the malware only targets systems that are not based on Russian or ex-USSR languages, which is a prevalent tendency in ransomware believed to have originated in Russia.
