`Google has recently announced security updates for the Android operating system, addressing more than 50 vulnerabilities. Among these vulnerabilities was a flaw in the Arm Mali GPU, which spyware vendors had exploited. The specific bug, CVE-2022-22706, was a kernel driver issue that Arm had already fixed in January 2022.
However, it had been targeted in attacks before that, as Google reported in March 2023. Despite the knowledge of these exploits, Google and other Android vendors took over a year to include the necessary patches for CVE-2022-22706 in their software updates.
