In the breach of a third-party vendor that provides services to numerous corporate clients, hackers acquired personal information from home mortgage holders at KeyBank, including Social Security numbers, addresses, and account numbers, the bank states.

According to a statement given to impacted home mortgage clients by Cleveland-based KeyBank, the hackers acquired the data on July 5 after hacking into servers at the supplier of insurance services Overby-Seawell Company.

KeyBank, which has assets close to USD 200 billion and operates in 15 states, refused to identify how many of its clients were impacted by the incident or provide any other information. According to KeyBank, Overby-Seawell had alerted law authorities and was looking into the issue with the aid of outside cybersecurity professionals.
