Analysts warn that the invading party, now known as the ‘Earth Centaur,’ is sharpening its attack to track transport and government agencies.
They have been an active threat group since 2011, but the recent rise in activity from Earth Centaur – formerly known as the Tropic Trooper – is aimed specifically at transportation and government agencies tying the knots among professionals. Researchers at Trend Micro were tracking the re-emergence of the Tropic Trooper, which began in July 2020 and recently included troubling attempts to break sensitive travel-related data such as flight schedules and financial planning documents.
Analysts have been able to link a new Earth Centaur function to the Tropic Trooper after finding the same code in the configuration code, they reported.
