President Joe Biden has signed an executive order to beef-up US cybersecurity defenses in response to a series of high-profile hacking incidents that show how vulnerable the country’s private and public sectors are to high-tech criminals operating from halfway across the world.

Biden’s actions come as the administration struggles to respond to a major hack of federal agencies by Russia and ransomware attacks on private companies.
