The US government has announced a new wave of sanctions against two Chinese hackers who it claims are engaged for “malicious cyber operations targeting U.S. entities that operate within critical infrastructure sectors.”
According to the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), the penalties also apply to a technological company situated in Wuhan, China, that serves as a front for various harmful cyber operations.
In tandem, the US Department of Justice unsealed an indictment against seven Chinese citizens, including the sanctioned Zhao Guangzong and Ni Gaobin, and revealed that its partners in the UK and the Commonwealth and Development Office had imposed similar sanctions.
