This week, technology giants Intel and VMware joined the Patch Tuesday parade, releasing fixes for security flaws that leave users vulnerable to malicious hacker attacks.
Intel issued two advisories to address privilege escalation and information disclosure vulnerabilities in the Hardware Accelerated Execution Manager (HAXM) software products and SGX software development kit.
CVE-2021-0186, the more serious of the two vulnerabilities, affects Software Guard Extensions (SGX) Software Development Kit (SDK) applications produced for SGX2-enabled CPUs and may allow privilege escalation in some scenarios.
Intel has assigned the bug a “high risk” rating and a CVSS Base Score of 8.2, citing numerous academic institutions with reporting the issue.
