The energy agency Gestore dei Servizi Energetici SpA (GSE) in Italy was the target of a weekend attack that was claimed by the BlackCat/ALPHV ransomware gang.

GSE’s website is still unavailable, nearly a week after the incident, according to a spokeswoman for the company, who said that its systems and website were shut down to prevent the attackers from accessing the data after the company discovered the intrusion on Sunday night. The BlackCat ransomware organization claimed to have posted a new item to its dark web data leak site before GSE made its announcement, claiming to have stolen around 700GB of material from the systems of the Italian energy agency.

The thieves claim that the files they have taken, which include contracts, reports, project information, accounting paperwork, and other internal documentation, include confidential data.
