CISA Offers Advice on How to Avoid Data Breaches Caused by Ransomware

The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has issued recommendations to assist government and private-sector companies in avoiding data breaches caused by ransomware double-extortion schemes. 

Best practices for combating ransomware attacks and protecting sensitive data from exfiltration attempts are included in CISA’s fact sheet.

Most ransomware gangs use data taken from their victims’ networks as leverage in ransom discussions, with the threat of exposing the stolen information on specialized leak sites, according to the federal agency. 

According to CISA, ransomware is a severe and growing threat to all government and private sector enterprises, including vital infrastructure.
