Google Cloud Invests _50 Million in Cybersecurity Firm Cybereason

Cybersecurity firm Cybereason Inc. has raised $50 million from Google LLC’s cloud business, bringing its total funding to $275 million.

The latest investment is remarkable since it’s unusual for Google’s cloud company to invest directly in startups. However, Alphabet Inc., through its GV and CapitalG investing arms, participates in funding rounds on a regular basis. Alphabet has invested in a number of cybersecurity businesses, including SecurityScorecard Inc., which was recently valued at about $1 billion.

Cybereason develops software that can detect malware in a company’s cloud environment, on employee devices, and on other systems.
