Hackers Use SEO to Deploy Malware Payloads

Cybercriminals have used search engine optimization (SEO) methods to deploy malware payloads to as many victims as possible. 

According to Sophos, the search engine deoptimization practice involves SEO tricks and the violation of human psychology to push websites that have been settled up Google’s rankings. 

SEO optimization is utilized by webmasters to legitimately boost their website’s publicity on search engines such as Bing or Google. Though Sophos states that threat leads are now tampering with the content management systems (CMS) of websites to serve financial malware, ransomware, and exploit tools.

If the attacker’s criteria aren’t satisfied, the browser will show a seemingly-normal web page that ultimately ends with garbage text.
