Mozilla Firefox Tweaks Referrer-Policy to Bolster User Privacy

Mozilla Firefox has announced that it will soon introduce a revised Referrer-Policy in order to tighten up inquiries and better protect user data.

Firefox 87 will try to cut back on path and inquiry string information from referrer headers to limit sites from leakage of sensitive user data accidentally.

Security infrastructure engineering manager Christoph Kerschbaumer and Developer Dimi Lee said in a statement that the latest browser version would incorporate a more stringent and more privacy-preserving default Referrer-Policy.

Browsers are expected to transfer HTTP Referrer headers to websites to indicate which location has led a user to a website server.
