The White House Urges Private Businesses to Assist in the Fight Against Ransomware

The White House sent an open letter this week urging corporate executives and industry leaders to take the necessary steps to defend their enterprises against ransomware attacks, just days after meat-packing giant JBS was targeted.

President Joe Biden signed an executive order on bolstering the cyber-defenses of “vital institutions” in response to a number of cyber-attacks that directly and indirectly impacted critical infrastructure in the United States, including the Colonial Pipeline attack and the SolarWinds incident.

In addition, the White House announced sanctions against a number of Russian firms and individuals, and also plans to ramp up its anti-ransomware efforts.
