Travelex Paid $2.3 Million in Ransomware Payment ITSW

Foreign exchange company Travelex has paid $2.3 million in ransom payment, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal. The company was hit by a ransomware attack on New Year’s Eve with Sodinokibi ransomware. The attackers were seeking $3 million to release the encrypted files with a promise of not making any information public during the attack.

According to the report, Travelex was in communication with regulators and partners throughout the course of the ransom and confirmed the original attack when it occurred on New Year’s Eve. Following the ransomware attack, the company’s website, application, and internal network were taken offline.
