The UK Information Commissioner’s Office has issued a warning to enterprises that tried to profiteer the COVID-19 pandemic by launching a spam texts campaign. As per ICO, DGEL had sent more than 16,000 cold marketing texts to users in the UK between February and April. The messages offered users “effective hand sanitizers against the coronavirus”. The hand sanitizer is called “Zoono” and available on the Zoono.io website. The domain now leads to an American eBay store that doesn’t mention the coronavirus or the hand sanitizer’s supposed effectiveness against the virus in its description.
