US President Joe Biden issued a stern warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin about ransomware attacks on American infrastructure, saying he was prepared to retaliate if the attacks continued.
“I pointed out to him we have significant cyber capability and he knows it,” Biden said in a press conference after the two leaders’ first summit in Geneva. “He doesn’t know exactly what it is, but it’s significant. If in fact they violate these basic norms, we will respond.”
Putin denied the allegations in a separate press conference after the three-and-a-half-hour meeting, insisting that the US was responsible for a substantial number of cyberattacks.
