According to Reuters, the US government has interrupted sections of a significant hacking campaign tied to a Chinese threat actor.

According to unnamed Western security officials and one person familiar with the matter, the FBI and Justice Department have been given permission to remotely disable some aspects of a Chinese cyber operation known as Volt Typhoon, which has targeted critical infrastructure. The disruption effort apparently occurred in recent months, although little information is available about what was targeted.

Volt Typhoon was discovered in May 2023, when Microsoft issued a warning that Chinese government hackers were stealing data from key infrastructure on US territory.
